JOB TITLE: Achievers-Gear Up Site Advisor
Part-Time
This position must be filled by Academic teachers, faculty or staff that are employed at the site location. Site advisors are responsible for recruitment of 30 student participants, facilitating program curriculum, keeping track of attendance and behavioral issues, recruiting mentors to assist with program facilitation, securing space at the school for meetings, and attending all scheduled events and field trips. Work availability: Twice a month (2pm-6Pm) Some Saturdays (10am-2pm)
Essential Responsibilities
- Developing appropriate lessons, activities and field trips for the school year that includes bi-monthly meetings.
- Collaborate with Program Director, and Counselors to ensure that objectives are reached.
- Maintaining accurate classroom records including attendance sheets, surveys, and staff logs.
- Maintaining an organized and efficient meeting room space.
- Adhering to all Gear Up and district professional expectations and compliance issues.
- Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized, and engaging learning environment.
- Motivating and holding students to high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for scholar behavior grounded in positive discipline.
- Empowering students to make positive choices and serving as a role model.
- Being accountable for meeting students’ individual academic and instructional needs.
- Ensuring enrichment and academic goals are met for each scholar.
- Creating and directing project-based learning
- Supervising students during guest speaker engagements, field trips, and scheduled workshops.

- Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants
- Must have a positive attitude and ability to work independently
- Content area expertise
- Ability to identify student learning needs and deliver appropriately
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adjust and adapt instructional strategies.
- Evidence of efficacy and willingness to be a team player
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
- Desire to work with middle school students and their families in under-resourced communities.
- Outstanding verbal, written, and technological (computer/internet) skills.
- Ability to build relationships and influence students, staff, community members & families.
- Demonstrate leadership ability.
- Committed to the goals of the program and approach.
School sites: Johnnie Carr, Brewbaker, Southlawn, Floyd, Dunbar-Ramer, Capitol Heights, Baldwin, McKee, Goodwyn, and Bellingrath
