Description:

We have an exciting position open within Caterpillar seeking an Accounting Analyst ( internally known as Staff Accountant I ). This role will independently perform staff level accounting functions that deal with accounting issues of normal complexity to support business processes and provide further experience with Caterpillar accounting practices.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

From the outset, the Accounting Analyst will be expected to be a contributing performer, performing accounting work that supports business processes.

Additionally, this position will:

  • Complete monthly charges to internal customers
  • Review monthly period costs results and provide variance analysis
  • Collaborate with leaders to develop the annual business plan and quarterly forecasts
  • Develop an expanded understanding of Caterpillar’s business and accounting practices, systems and procedures

The incumbent will be exposed to a variety of accounting functions and will perform a high level of compilation with a broad range of analysis work. The Accounting Analyst will review and validate relevant data and data sources, analyze information and provide feedback. Incumbent works on challenging, low to medium risk issues and makes decisions and recommendations as appropriate.

Possible areas of responsibility are varied and of medium complexity, including:

  • Financial accounting including consolidation, analysis and communication of division or multiple business units’ results / explanations
  • Presentation and explanation of results to management
  • Participate on and lead teams

Interacts with multiple functional areas and levels of authority. The Accounting Analyst is capable of handling complex accounting issues such as:

  • Reconciliation between forecasts and actual for multiple entities
  • Interpretation of results
  • Resolving financial reporting problems

The Accounting Analyst will demonstrate knowledge and ability to independently handle accounting issues. They will demonstrate good communication skills and have an expanded knowledge of Caterpillar’s businesses, products, suppliers and customers.

Basic Requirements:

  • 4-year degree, preferably in accounting, finance or business-related degree
  • 1+ years of accounting experience
  • Must demonstrate initiative, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

Top Candidate Will Also Have Some/All:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of using tools such as Excel, Power BI, SAP Business Objects (BOBJ), SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC)
  • Accounting/Finance certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CFA)
  • Advanced degree (e.g., masters, MBA)

  • Additional location: Irving, TX
  • Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify
  • Minimal travel is expected
