Accountant Supervisor Job at Presnell Gage PLLC
An Accountant Supervisor, having demonstrated some leadership abilities at the senior accountant level, assumes supervision of all lower-level staff and accepts increasing responsibility for engagements while continuing to increase and strengthen client relationships.
Performance expectations
An Accountant Supervisor is expected to:
- Maintain professionalism and tactful understanding while dealing with clients and team members
- Take charge of all engagements assigned. This includes responsibility for all decisions and delegation of work to lower-level staff
- Take responsibility for reviewing all staff work
- Effectively communicate, both orally and written, all aspects of work performed to clients, staff, managers, and partners
- Demonstrate self-assurance when dealing with staff and clients on all matters
- Work directly with clients to meet their needs, while communicating status of all clients to partners
- Make sure that work is completed promptly and within expected time frame
- Contribute to staff performance reviews
- Bill clients for engagements
- Follow the firm’s procedures and comply with the policies outlined in the personnel manual and quality control document
- Record and post time daily
Assignments
Accountant Supervisors are responsible for most engagements. Duties may include the following:
- Supervising staff, delegating portions of engagements, and taking responsibility for decisions relating to engagements
- Distributing work load to ensure maximum staff productivity, ensuring that lower-level staff work is performed by appropriate personnel, and supervising work schedules of all subordinates
- Assuming some responsibility for administrative functions including billing and collections, staff evaluations, budget preparation, staff training and recruiting, and contributing to the firm’s policies and communicating these policies to the staff
- Becoming proficient in special client services, including projections and analysis
- Other tasks assigned
Professional development
Accountant Supervisors are expected to develop professionally by:
- Acting as a staff mentor by providing guidance and serving as a professional role model
- Becoming more conscious of the need to increase the firm’s growth through new business, identifying new services that may be sold to clients, and continuing to attempt to attract new clients
- Continuing to promote the firm’s image through participation in civic, professional, and business organizations, including speaking engagements and seminars
- Learning new technology the firm introduces into the work environment
- Look for opportunities relating to new technology that would improve operational efficiencies
Other requirements
- Demonstrated supervisory skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in related computer software.
