The Ryan College of Business Office of Undergraduate Programs Office is staffed with professional Academic Advisors and Academic Counselors responsible for evaluating transfer credit and course planning. They assist students with the understanding of university policies and regulations, reach their academic goals, and support student success.

Position Overview
To support the G. Brint Ryan College of Business by providing advanced academic counseling, career counseling, referrals and degree program advising to undergraduate business majors and prospective business majors in individual and group sessions. This includes the expertise to implement, develop and evaluate programs designed to increase student retention and participation in general degree advising activities (preparation of degree plans, evaluation of transcripts, processing graduation applications and community relations).

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience.

  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory.
  • Strong presentation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong counseling skills including career development and group facilitation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Remains active in professional development.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong public speaking and communication skills.

Required License / Registration / Certification

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday 8AM to 5PM with occasional evening or weekends, including periodic travel to the UNT at Frisco campus. Some remote work may be possible with supervisor and departmental approval.

Job Duties

o
Maintains effective knowledge and use of advising approaches for implementation in individual advising sessions and in construction and implementation of advising programs

Advises prospective and current students regarding University and degree requirements, as well as career/major choices, in a timely and professional manner

o
Develops and assesses retention initiatives to increase student persistence and graduation rates

o
Effectively coordinates and leads undergraduate Transfer Orientation activities for the College

o
Manages processes and programs designed for students exploring RCOB degree options

o
Efficiently, accurately and thoroughly maintains and updates student degree plans and other records, including graduation applications, using university and advising technology

o
Demonstrate commitment and ability to support a diverse group of individuals within the academic community

o
Demonstrate high level of professionalism within office, College, University and community

o
Complete miscellaneous projects and tasks as requested by supervisor, Directors and/or Associate Dean
