Job Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Advising & Success, the Academic Advisor for Transfer and Part-time Students is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Student Advising & Success, the Director of Part-Time Admissions, and the Director of Transfer Admissions to develop, evaluate and recommend new policies and programs to enhance the transfer and part-time student admission and academic experience.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist the Executive Director of Student Advising & Success in the leading of the Part-time and transfer advising.
  • Serve as academic liaison for admissions in the recruitment of part-time and transfer students.
  • Conduct initial transfer evaluations for prospective students
  • Meet with part time and transfer recruits to discuss credit evaluations, course schedule and academic requirements
  • Coordinate part-time and transfer student admissions event in partnership with University Admissions Office
  • Track part-time student retention and follow up on non-registered lists.
  • Coordinate transfer and part-time advising efforts with counterparts across colleges.
  • Support student success efforts for part-time students in the Office of Student Advising and Success.
  • Support student success efforts for adult learners in the Office of Student Advising and Success.
  • Communicate with, develop, and lead faculty development workshops on part-time and transfer advising, including both curricular and developmental issues.
  • Work with the Offices of the Dean of Students and Student Life to coordinate, develop and participate in academic aspects of Transfer Student Orientation.
  • Assist in working with the Registrar's Office, Academic Departments and Admissions to place and register transfer and part-time students across the University and to make schedule changes as needed.
  • Working with Assistant Director of Student Advising and Success, coordinate and manage the registration of transfer students.
  • Serve as academic advisor to undecided transfer students until they officially declare their majors and are assigned to major academic advisors in their departments.
  • Coordinate with academic departments, Admissions, and the Registrar's office to advise and register all part-time students.
  • Serve as academic advisor to all undecided part-time students until they officially declare their majors and are assigned to major academic advisors in their departments.
  • Facilitate transition to major advisors for transfer and part time students.

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

  • Minimum five years higher education experience with advising undergraduate students.
  • Bachelors degree required, masters preferred.
  • Highly effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working effectively with faculty from a range of disciplines and fields.

Some evening and weekend hours may be necessary.
