911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainee Job at Town of Hilton Head Island
Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainees work under close supervision while learning how to properly process and respond to incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Position is an essential personnel position which requires working a variety of situations including during holidays, weekends, day/night shifts, and during state of emergencies. Position supports a 24/7, 365- day operation. Upon successful completion of training, a trainee will advance to a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator. This usually takes around 6-months.
Minimum requirements for this position:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bi-lingual preferred
Will be required to complete:
- American Heart Association CPR Certification within three (3) months of employment;
- The 40 Basic Telecommunicator Course, (APCO 7th Ed. Certification or South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Course within one (1) year of employment;
- EMD Certification (Emergency Medical Dispatch) within one (1) year of employment; and
- EFD Certification (Emergency Fire Dispatch) within one (1) year of employment.
Salary and benefits:
This is a non-exempt, trainee position with a hiring salary of $49,710 ($22.76 per hour). Upon successful completion of training program, the Trainee will be advanced to E-911 Public Safety Telecommunicator and base salary of $55,720.56 ($25.51 per hour). 10%-night shift differential applies when scheduled to work 6:30PM to 6:30AM. Additional sign-on bonus of $500 per certification if already 40 Basic Telecommunicator, EMD or EFD Certified.

- Candidates who pass the skills test will be invited to observe our dispatchers in action to gain a better understanding of what the job entails and will also participate in panel interview. (4 hour time requirement)
